The whole country should know that at that time when the LTTE was trying to divide this country, these innocent people sacrificed their lands and moved out but did not assist them. These people did not help the LTTE at the time and they left their homes, belongings and mosques, everything … and left with just a handful of essentials in a shopping bag.

Today it is these innocent civilians who are living like this in the Marichchikatti village and are being treated in this manner.

After having left their lands these people returned to their villages around 23 years later, and one can imagine that the forest had engulfed their villages and it was not the same as when they left; it had been uninhabited for the past 23 or so years. However the remnants of a mosque, Houses, well, Heritage inscription and a cemetery are yet visible and this is proof that these villagers lived here in the past.

Prior to 1990 this village was occupied solely by the Muslim people and it is they who have now returned to claim rightful ownership to their lands. Had there been any other race that lived here then we too would welcome them now.

However it is only when these innocent Muslim civilians are returning to claim their rightful land that the Wildlife Department, the BBS, extremist monks and everyone else is making such a big issue of it. I wish to firmly state that these people are not encroaching on forest land. This is blatant discrimination against the Muslim villages and we have not damaged or cleared any land that belongs to the Wilpattu National Park.

Marichchikatti, internationally known as Marichchukkaddi, during the British Colonial period, was one of several ancient pearling villages, like Silavatthurai and Arippu, situated north of the Wilpattu sanctuary, along the Kondaichchi Bay, and south of the Mannar Island, known as “Epidorus” by the ancient Greeks and Romans. The trans-Indian Ocean pearl trade with the Indian sub-continent and Sri Lanka, dominated by the Romans during the heyday of the Roman Empire, was taken over by the Arabs, after the decline of the Roman Empire in the 4th-century A.D.

Sri Lanka’s Largest Muslim Owned “NOLIMIT” Panadura Currently In Flames today

The flagship store of the countrys largest Muslim clothing chain “NOLIMIT” Panadura is currently in flames after a mob set fire to it early this morning.
Four fire brigade trucks are currently attempting to douse the fire, but according the eye witnesses, are failing due to the sheer magnitude of the fire.
The building situated in the Panadura town is the largest clothing store in the area and the largest No limit outlet in the country.

The clothing chain was identified and repeatedly attacked by the Bodu Bala Sena in successive speeches made by its General Secretary, Galagoda Atte Gnanasara who enjoys complete immunity from the law.

The Bodu Bala Sena, with the assistance of the police, prevented a peaceful candle lit vigil from taking place outside the Bodu Bala Sena headquarters in Thunmulla late this evening.

A small crowd under the banner ‘Buddhists Questioning Bodu Bala Sena’ stood outside the Bodu Bala Sena headquarters and attempted to stage the vigil calling for an end to hate speeches.

However Bodu Bala Sena executive member Dilantha Widanage led a group of Bodu Bala Sena supporters towards the crowd and demanded that they leave.

The police who had provided tight security to the Bodu Bala Sena office then ordered the demonstrators to leave.

The demonstrators then headed towards police park to stage the vigil but were prevented from doing so by the police.

Eventually some of the demonstrators were arrested and taken to the Bambalapitiya police station for questioning.

The demonstrators had then attempted to stage the vigil at another location closer to police park but members and supporters of the Bodu Bala Sena arrived at the location with the police and obstructed the vigil.

Widanage accused the demonstrators of operating with the support of NGOs and claimed there were no Buddhists among the crowd.

A senior police officer was then seen asking some of the demonstrators individually if they were Buddhists.

Widanage also insisted that the demonstrators should be arrested claiming that they had distributed leaflets calling for the Sri Lanka national anthem to be changed.

Some men clad in Bodu Bala Sena T-shirts were seen taking photographs of those present including that of journalists.

When the journalists protested at their photographs being taken the police turned a deaf ear and Dilantha Widanage said they had a right to take photographs.

The demonstrators eventually dispersed with an assurance they will try again to get their message across.

A tight police presence was seen outside the Bodu Bala Sena overnight even after the demonstrators dispersed.

வடக்கில் LTTEயும் அரசாங்கமும் மோதிkகொள்ளும் போது நாங்கள் அகதிகளாக வெளியேறினோம்,

நினைத்திருந்தால் LTTE யுடன் சேர்ந்துகொண்டு அரசாங்கத்திற்கெதிராக ஆயுதம் ஏந்தி இருக்க முடியும்.

நாம் வாழும் நாட்டிற்கு நம் கையால் அழிவு வேண்டாம் என்பது ஒரு காரணம்,
நாம் பின்பற்றும் இஸ்லாம் மார்க்கம் அதனை போதிக்கவில்லை என்பது இன்னுமொறு காரணம்.

இதனை அறியாத  பொதுபல சேன போன்ற பாசிச அமைப்புக்கள் தேவையற்ற பேச்சுக்களை பேசாமல் இருப்பது நல்லது.
